This book covers a wide range of topics with one whole section of the book devoted to how and why the Finns left their homeland and where they settled. Other topics consist of the early history of the Finns while under both Russian and Swedish rule. There are chapters on the Maine Finns, churches, organizations, publications and that all important sauna. There is even a chapter devoted to the vital records of the Finnish church in South Thomaston, Maine. Since these records were all written in the Finnish language, they had to be translated by Art. Another chapter covers the subject of Finnish-American churches at length with many biographies and photos of various pastors. The entire book contains well over 200 photos of individuals, churches, confirmation classes, pastors as well as immigration documents.
