About This Book

A collective work that includes six original texts written for the seminar "Clara Porset Dumas. Reflexiones sobre el diseño latinoamericano contemporáneo", which took place in May 2018 at the Centro de Investigaciones de Diseño Industrial UNAM (CIDI). The participants articulated a dialogue with the collection of the Clara Porset Archive, which allowed to deepen the life and work of the designer to renew the look on some of the milestones of the historiography of local design. But who was Clara Porset Dumas? A Mexican designer of Cuban origin (1895-1981), little known, to whom justice is done with this book. Fundamental figure for the development of industrial design in Mexico and Latin America. Professor of the Unidad Académica de Diseño Industrial, today Centro de Investigaciones de Diseño Industrial (CIDI) and passionate cultural promoter who knew how to intertwine with modern and contemporary design materials, production techniques and national identity. He worked throughout his career with renowned architects of our country, such as Luis Barragán, Max Cetto, Mario Pani, Juan Sordo Madaleno and Enrique Yáñez. The Archive Clara Porset it is part of his legacy and is integrated by his library, plans, sketches, documents, personal correspondence, photographs and pieces of furniture; is in shelter in the Faculty of Architecture of the UNAM, because he bequeathed it on loan when he died in 1981. Its archive is an inexhaustible source of research.
