"Helisenne de Crenne published eight editions of her best-selling novel, Les angoysses douloureuses qui procedent d'amours, during the period 1538-60. Since the 1960s, critics have reappraised her works, and her place in literary history is now firmly established. Despite the recent interest in her fiction there is, as yet, no book-length study of her writing. The present volume fills this void.
