In so doing, the author of the text book Sembene Ousmane paints the customs, traditions, behaviour, and indeed personalities of the country for not conducting themselves as they expected when they were critizing the Whites. In the end, the author poses the question to blacks themselves as to what they have achieved after indepenedce by their own comportment.
