The Penguin dictionary of art and artists

Short biographies of over 1,000 painters, sculptors and engravers fill the greater part of it; these contain facts and dates of the artists career, a note of galleries exhibiting his work, and an estimate of his style. The dictionary also defines artistic movements, terms applied to periods and ideas, and technical expressions and processes. The art of eastern or primitive peoples is not covered.
