William de Bulmer, an ex-monk and ex-abbot, has renounced his vows for a new life with a wife, now married a year. When the aged monk who served as cellarer dies, Father John, the Abbot of St. Alcuin's Abbey, calls upon his friend, the former Father William, to help in managing the estate. However, other matters may need his attention.
