About This Book

The exhibition HEAVY at Gl. Holtegaard unfolds Danish artist Hans Henrik Lerfeldt's delicate, sophisticated, yet also coarse, rough, and surreal universe. Operating in a field where many things meet and intersect ? vanity and mortality, fascination and repulsion ? Lerfeldt embodies the spirit of the 1980s with all its bleak pessimism, surface glitz, and desire as he depicts his baroque subject matter: posing women and giant insects. The motifs are in many ways an obvious pairing for Gl Holtegaard, where the beautiful baroque villa and the enchanting baroque garden evoke a sense of delicious decadence, elegantly miming and matching Lerfeldt?s universe. For many years Lerfeldt?s erotic motifs and far too early death have been allowed to dominate the general image of his legacy. With this exhibition we will look at his work with fresh eyes. Over the course of the last 25 years, research on e.g. the field of Surrealism has prompted major international exhibitions that have updated and informed our present-day understanding and approach to the field. 00Exhibition: Museum Gammel Holtegard, Holte, Denmark (16.02.-12.04.2015).
