About This Book
As part of the United Nations Decade on Women, the Angolan government prepared a report on the political, economic, and social condition of Angolan women. Citing the difficulties arising out of a civil war and indeed of the colonial period in general, the government explains its commitment to the improvement of women's condition. An important step in this process was the creation of the Organization of Angolan Women in 1983. Subsections discuss important and progressive changes to legislation (including labor, family, and electoral law), women's access to vocational training and equal employment, women's access to education and healthcare, and to women's interests in national media outlets. The report ends by arguing that national liberation from Portuguese colonial rule in 1975 has also translated into women's liberation.
