The new elementary school curriculum

The authors present a clear overview of elementary schools in the early Seventies. First, students are introduced to the thoughts of some of the men from Rousseau onward who have influenced the ideas surrounding education. Next, a series of seven chapters dealing sequentially with the major areas of the curriculum: the subject's organization and background are followed by a contemporary content trend, and suggestions for current innovations in methodology. The suggestions on classroom management and pupil behavior are unusually good and might be re-read periodically by practicing teachers. The role of established ground rules for classroom and school in promoting pupil safety, in managing groups, and in facilitating learning are likewise thoroughly explored.
