[A collection of nine philosophical treatises by Avicenna, namely : (1) the introductory portion of the second part, treating of physics, of his system of speculative philosophy, entitled ʿUyūn al-ḥikmah ; (2) al-Risālah fī al-ajrām al-samāwīyah, on the nature of the heavenly bodies ; (3) al-Risālah fī al-qūwah al-insānīyah, on the human faculties ; (4) Kitāb al-ḥudūd, a collection of scientific definitions ; (5) Taqāsīm al- ḥikmah wa-al-'ulūm, on the classification of the sciences ; (6) al-Risālah fī ithbāt al-nubūwah, on prophecy ; (7) al-Risālah al-nayrūzīyah, on the hidden meaning of the letters of the alphabet which are prefixed to some of the Surahs of the Koran ; (8) al-Risālah fī al-ʿahd, on the duties of man towards God ; (9) al-Risālah fī al-akhlāq, an outline of a system of ethics. To which are added the story of Salāmān and Absāl, an allegory translated from the Greek by Ḥunayn ibn Isḥāq, and a life of Avicenna from the biographical dictionary of Ibn Khallikān.].
