Bagatelle

Part 3 of Denuzière's chronicle of a family of planters, the Damvilliers, that spans the period between 1830 and the 1940s. The third book of the saga, "Bagatelle," is set at the turn of the twentieth century. Amidst the rapid changes--from the Spanish-American War, the flow of black gold in the land to cotton, the beginnings of jazz, the first automobiles, the exploits of flying aces, and the entry of the United States in World War I--the plantation of Bagatelle under the heirs of Virginia Damvilliers remains haughtily independent, an unchanging symbol of the civilization of the Old South.
