About This Book

The time is 1963. The place is South Africa. Gus and Diana Roth, middle-class whites, are involved in the struggle against apartheid. The story, however, is seen through the eyes of their 13-year-old daughter, Molly, who feels neglected and ignored by her mother, shut out by Diana's preoccupation with her political activities. How both Diana and Molly cope with the pressures brought to bear on them and come to reconcile their commitment and responsibility not only to each other, but to the society in which they live, is the core of this film.
