About This Book

This is one of many books written by Christian theologians in the second half of the nineteenth century in an attempt to reconcile Christian teachings to the new scientific knowledge promulgated by people such as Darwin, Wallace, etc. For the first time Christianity saw itself being challenged by academics on a scale hitherto unknown and these books were written in an attempt to make light of the things that Christians had believed for centuries in a sort of "oh well the Bible didn't really mean that...." sort of way.
