Portugal and EC membership evaluated

EC membership has been a vigorously discussed issue in Portugal. However, it is widely believed that if the economy remained isolated from the Community it would face more difficulties and the prospects for its future development would be less encouraging. Within the context of Portugal's national goals and interests, the contributors analyse the extent to which the objectives of the EC have been achieved, and evaluate the net gains and losses to Portugal of membership.
