About This Book
"Large portfolio follows format of earlier work by same authors (see item #bi 97015334#), this time documenting 16 17th-century canvases from the Cuzco School depicting the life of Saint Theresa of Jesus. Presumably all originally acquired in 1744 by the convent of San José de Carmelitas Descalzas in Córdoba, Argentina, a few of these paintings are now in other museums in the same city. Concise bilingual Spanish-English text describes each of the paintings comparing the iconography to other similar works in Peru and elsewhere in South America. On the basis of stylistic analysis, the authors attribute the paintings to a follower of the well-known Cuzco painter José Espinoza de los Monteros. B/w photographs are of uneven quality, but color plates provide valuable details"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
