About This Book
Economic Wisdom for Babies is an attempt by the author to present complex economic theories and principles in simple language by using fiction form. The stories in the book have been first published in The Sunday Times, a weekend English Newspaper published in Sri Lanka, in a column under the same title. The author, by publishing the book, has responded to the demand by readers for bringing them out in printed form.
The author has added a special section to the book under the title 'The Fictionalisation of Economics' commenting on many other instances of using fiction - form to present economic principles. He has discussed in this section how India's ancient case study book Panchathantra has educated the Princes of hard economic theories, the economic principles found in the Buddhist Jathaka Stories, Ayn Rand's contribution to Economics through her fictions (mainly, We the Living, The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged), and Robert Pirsig's elaboration of the scientific method in a fiction titled 'Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance'.
