Basically that's what zoos are for— to increase our knowledge of the animals that share our world, to raise our levels of interest and, in short, to enrich life.
To show how animals live is not itself a new idea, some European Zoos were pioneering in the display of animals in more or less natural settings at the beginning of this century. What is new is the refinement of exhibition techniques, a deepening involvement in environmental education and such concept as the Zoo's responsibility to preserve threatened wild animals.
