Espacializando a história

The studies gathered here were originally discussed in the Colóquio Espaço e Habitação: Minas Gerais and Bahia (séculos XVIII e XIX) held in Mariana between August 26-27, 2019, organized by the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto and the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris, France). They are part of the broader effort to resume the dialogue between History and Geography. Não se trata de inserir as histórias que aqui se contam num determinado espaço geográfico. Or rather, not just that. It is, above and above all, to extract from the cartography of certain facts a story that otherwise could not be revealed or would not be with the desirable sharpness. In this lies the novelty of the recent movement, and very promising, undoubtedly, of the application of geographic information systems in history.
