Ying tsao fa shih

Published in AD 1103, Li Chieh's *Ying tsao fa shih* or "Methods and Designs of Architecture" it established a modular system of engineering and architecture for the whole empire. Specific heights and breadths of vertical brackets attached to wooden pillars are specified. It deals exhaustively with carved ornament, animal and floral, with panelled ceilings and lattice work. It is a repertory of Sung decorative art.
