About This Book

"We nchika neit Visions is a collection of lyric essays that explore the regions around Windsor-Essex-Kent counties through the standpoint of the Lenape author. The collection of essays draws its essence from the Big House Ceremony central to traditional Lenape beliefs with the title making reference to the speaker (We nchika neit) of the pieces being one of the male speakers during the multi-day Big House Ceremony that speaks of important visions they have had during the previous year. This illustrates the two worlds that the essays inhabit, that of the traditional world of the speaker as they are presented to his community and to that of the reading public of contemporary Canadian culture. The vision aspect of these essays will drive them in their both lyric and concrete metaphorical construction and enables an engagement with the land that is relatively uncommon with much of the non-fiction writing today."--
