This book is an introduction to the fundamental problems and issues of epistemology. It assumes no prior knowledge of the subject and is therefore ideal as a core text for beginning students.

He then goes on to explore the problem of skepticism, the nature of self-knowledge, the validity of induction and the ethics of belief.
