The founding of Israeli democracy, 1948-1967

Intensive study into the origins and evolution of Israel's Democratic institutions. Israel is viewed as unique, in that its political institutions derived largely from the ethos of one party (Mapai); the norm has been for political institutions to forge parties, not vice versa. most importantly, medding shows how israel was able to remain a democratic state, despite the intense military and political pressure brought to bear on it by its neighbors.
