About This Book

This book describes the traditional process of the festival of crosses in Huaraz, which takes place within the programming of the Huaraz carnivals. Two continuous festivals are held: the mass of peasant crosses and the meeting of crosses from the city's neighborhoods. The publication is illustrated with photographs taken in 2019 and 2020. "Dance of the crosses in Huaraz", made by the anthropologist Román Robles and Rosa Huayre Cochachin. It is a book that makes a iconographic, historical and ethnographic recounting of a unique festival that takes place in February, at the beginning of the carnival in Huaraz. On the central day, the city becomes a festive atmosphere starring by men and women who come from different localities carrying crosses of different sizes on their shoulders to be blessed in the main churches.
