"This book presents for the first time a data bank on the evoluton of the population of 2206 European cities. It is based on examination of more than 3000 documents, including unpubllished sources. In addition, some forty institutes and scholars from all of Europe have aided in this work. This volume gives for each city the data on population at the beginning of each century for a period of 1000 years.
