About This Book

Born in Poland, Rabbi Avigdor attended various European Rabbinical Seminaries and studied at the Universityof Lwow, where he majored in philosophy. Ordained in 1938, he was assisting his father as Rabbi in Boryslaw, Poland. When the war broke out he was incarcerated by the Germans for five years in several concentration camps including the infamous Mauthausen. Liberated on May 5th 1945 by the American Army, the immediate post-war years found the author involved in rescue and rehabilitation work on behalf of refugee children in religious villages and kibbutzim in Austria, Hungary, Italy, France and Belgium. Upon his arrival in the United States, Rabbi Avigdor became director of the Yeshiva Rabbi Solomon Kluger, later principal of the Yeshiva Academy of Long Island, followed by three years of service as Executive Vice-President of Hapoel Hamizrachi in New York.
