Contains biographical vignettes about various Poles, principally authors, with the exception of the composers Frédéric Chopin and Stanisław Moniuszko. These include the aforementioned Chopin in his homeland and in Scotland, Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, Zygmunt Krasinski, Cyprian Norwid in Switzerland and Italy, Tadeusz Kościuszko in Poland and Switzerland, Stefan Żeromski in Italy and Switzerland, and Joseph Conrad in England.
