About This Book

Between 2002 and 2007, photographers João Castilho, Pedro David, and Pedro Motta joined together to portray seven communities in northeast Minas Gerais partially flooded by the construction of the Hydroelectric Plant of Irapé, between the cities of Berilo and Grão Mogol along the Jequitinhonha River. Mixing color and black-and-white photos in a visual narrative, their images lead the spectator to a universe where the poetic use of light creates an oneiric atmosphere. The book registers "bigger than life" landscapes in contrast to human abandonment, providing a contemporary revision of the language of the photodocumentary.
