The truism that clergy are human includes the facts that clergy are just as prone to suffer the kind of life-crisis that other people suffer as they face the change of perspective of the second half of life. The point of view from which this thesis proceeds is that life-crisis will not be prevented by excellent formation early in a person’s ordained life, but that good early formation could mitigate some of the worst effects in later years. Secondly the Church has a role to play in taking care of its ministers – caring for the care-givers.
