In Moscow, Tsar Alexeĭ receives a denunciation of Vyhovskyĭ from I︠A︡kiv Barabash and Martyn Pushkar, along with a request to allow the Cossacks to choose a new Hetman. Young Cossack Demko Gorichenko learns about the betrayal of Vyhovskyĭ by Barabash and Pushkar, and goes to warn the Hetman.
