Nomos e polis fra l'Antigone e il Critone

Nomos, the law, and Polis, the city, are central concepts to Sophocles' Antigone and Plato's Crito. Both works address the problem of the authority of the law and the freedom of the individual. Maddalena Mancini takes an approach that is both historical and philosophical in her examination of theoretical and conceptual nodes in both works, including the complex relationship between the individual and the law, the birth of the moral conscience, the universality of human rights, the pursuit of philosophy as a fundamental basis for humans' hope for a better future, and the consciousness of the tragedy of existence.
