Memorial and proposals of Señor Don José Martín on the Californias (Mexico, mdcccxxii)

San Martin in 1822 requested that the authorities in Mexico investigate the missionaries alleged refusal to declare loyalty to the new independent Mexico. Because of the economic turmoil of independence, missionaries have had to perform the political work of administering the ranches instead of educating the Indians.
