This book is a biography of the author who served in the diplomatic service of the French Republic with assignments, inter alia, in Spain, Poland, Afghanistan, Turkey and Japan during the first half of the 20th century. It is very detailed yet eminently readable, treating both his personal circumstances and the politics of France and his host countries.
