Working in China

This book is based on interviews conducted by Chinese graduate students when the author taught at a major university in China as a Fulbright scholar. Those interviewed come from work environments in state-owned and foreign-owned enterprises. Here is what one Chinese employee says: "If only salary is concerned, it is not that appealing, 2000 Yuan a month. Comparatively, it is just an average salary among friends. But you know there are all kinds of invisible income and good welfare guarantees.the company provides dorms, so I don't have to pay for my housing. Moreover, I have free lunch in the company." This book reveals the complexity and transformations of the Chinese economy by presenting the readers a perspective through Chinese workers' voices.
