About This Book

Barak Ben-Noon pens the story of his grandmother Aviva, a Polish Holocaust survivor. Aviva was only a year old when the Nazis began to wreak havoc across Germany; in 1942 her mother and sister died on the journey to Treblinka. Aviva was saved by her aunt Rina, and was placed in the care of a woman called the "Polish Lady," who both sheltered and abused Aviva. After surviving the atrocities of the Holocaust, Aviva emigrated to New York, where she found acceptance and community for the first time. Eventually, Aviva joined her father in Israel and became a nurse at a hospital, where she was lauded for her dedication and superlative skill. — Alekhya
