About This Book
"This book is an analysis and description of different forms of racism and discrimination in the workplace. It explores the processes that lead to ethnic minority employees being confined to occupational ghettos and how equal opportunities policies have influenced patterns of recruitment and promotion for ethnic minority groups in different professions. Using research material from two different case-studies, the book shows how different mechanisms exclude ethnic minority employees from senior positions within professions. The book draws on interviews with a range of ethnic minority employees in the National Health Service, and also on statistical data from the Higher Education Statistics Agency, showing the position of ethnic minority staff in UK universities. Using new material from the Public Record Office, the book sketches the way in which migrants from the New Commonwealth have been incorporated into the labour market."--Jacket.
