About This Book

Book Summary

Democracy is increasingly mentioned as an essential value, but one cannot say it's increasingly better defined. The word "Democracy" like the word "Communication" has a high density of unexpressed signification. Nevertheless, in various contexts where Democracy is mentionned, required ou desired, one understands that it's all about freedom : freedom of speech, of association, of exchange, of travelling, of imagination and création. Often, there is another word mentioned as a condition for the achievement of this freedom: it is "Participation". But the problem remains fully, because "Participation" is not better defined, except for some individuals or groups asking strongly to be added to the few authorized to participate in institutions or activities.

Collective Communication, as described in the book, not only define clearly all these words, but show with examples the set of conditions allowing everyone to participate in decision making for every aspects concerning their personal life. Alice Labrèque and Jean Routier show us how a real participative democracy can be put in place by assemblies where is experienced a real collective communication by facilitators using adequate methods for the collective level of communication.

Step by step, they show us how to proceed and they provide many experiences in private and public organizations, some of them one would believe it impossible to implement. They point out the major advantages these collective communication assemblies provided throughout almost forty years, in various countries. The results are often amazing, even spectacular, because of the empathetic listening of the expériences and capabilities of every paticipant. Altogether, they identify clearly fatal mistakes to avoid and new orientations required by a changing context, with win-win strategies to keep motivated all partners involved.

A book looking simple like Colombus' egg but that is nothing but revolutionnary!
