About This Book

In the 1987 Throne Speech, the Government of Ontario made a commitment to initiate a comprehensive review of the current Ontario Mining Act. This Green Paper is the first step towards formulating the substance of a new and improved Act, and sets out policy directions and priorities. The paper discusses the provisions of the existing Mining Act concerning the acquisition and retention of title; proposes new procedures for the issuance of mining permits; discusses provisions for safe mine closure and abandonment; and addresses industrial minerals, domestic processing, the use of regulations, and freedom of information vs. confidentiality.
