Closed Doors (Kleistes Portes)

A heart-rending account of the heroic struggle for Cypriot Independence from the British in 1955-59. Cyprus came under British occupation in 1878 and became a British colony in 1926. The Greek Cypriots suffered tortures, executions, and hangings for many years until on April 1, 1955, the Greek Cypriots led by EOKA, the National Organization of Cypriot Fighters, began an armed rebellion against the British. In 1960 Cyprus won its independence.
