About This Book

The Object Peripheral (1990-2009) was a paradigmatic performance/ n theater group, which meant "a watershed in the Argentine experimental and independent scene." The works marked generations not only of artists, but also of thinkers in the field of literature, philosophy and psychoanalysis disturbed by the multiplicity of readings that his works aroused. The prolific and successful life of the group lasted twenty years under the direction of Emilio García Wehbi, Ana Alvarado and Daniel Veronese, in which they performed eleven shows with which they circulated internationally and obtained unanimous recognition from festivals, critics, the academy and the public. Although there are many works that analyze his work, the group itself did not leave its memory in writing. This book is the result of an exercise that involves memory in the form of a testimonial account where theory, anecdote, poetry and life experience coexist, but it also unfolds as an archaeological excavation, which seeks the relationship with that past through from their public and personal material remains. Emilio García Wehbi assumes the condition of witness and narrates not only with words, but also with images, the tremor caused by the life of the group. This is a dry book, as Didi-Huberman affirms when he assumes that it is absurd from an anthropological point of view to oppose images to words: they all together form a treasure or a tomb of memory, it does not matter if that treasure is a simple flake or if that memory is traced on the sand shortly before a wave dissolves itʺ.
