This book examines the highest funerary honors -- funerals, elegies, grave monuments, statues, and public mourning -- awarded by the Senate to illustrious figures in Rome during the middle and late Republic. The author examines individual recipients of funerary honors, focusing on their family and political ties, and analyzes "funerary strategy" -- the tactics that the greatest figures of the time implemented as they used the funerary honors of their followers and relatives for their own political gain.
