This book reports a research project carried out with university students of business English. One group of students was trained in learning strategies applied to unknown business vocabulary and was contrasted with another group who didn't receive any training at all in guessing new vocab. The experiment showed that training learners in cognitive strategies for a short period of time yields excellent results and that students' cognitive and metacognitive (affective) standards improved dramatically when guessing unknown words.
