Tells the stories of six children: six-year-old Candy who has radical reconstructive surgery on her malformed face, fifteen-year-old Mark with cystic fibrosis, eigthteen-month-old Jody born with severe defects, eight-year-old Gina with acute lymphocytic leukemia, premature newborn Brandon, and nine-year-old Freddy injured by a car while crossing the street.
