About This Book

In the second decade of the 4th century AD two cemeteries were started to the west and the east of the Late Roman fortress on the Valkhof-Kelfkensbos in the present town of Nijmegen. The cemetary in the east ceased to be used by the end of the 4th century, whereas the cemetery in the town centre lasted until c. AD 500. Aready from the 17th century on late Roman pottery had been found. After the 1944 bombardment, excavations were carried out from 1947 until 1963 during its rebuilding, and again in the years 1975-1976 and 1980-1983. The present study publishes and interprets all stay finds from both the cemeteries from the 17th century up to 1963 and both series of excavations.
