About This Book
Colonial architecture in Chiapas is an example of the integration between pre-Hispanic and Spanish cultures, which presents iconographic characteristics that have not been addressed as research topics. Iconographic syncretism in the religious Architecture of Chiapas provides the basis for understanding the processes of struggle and acceptance that integrated the new ideology of the indigenous people as a result of the impositions on the part of the Spaniards who attempted against the pre-Hispanic culture. The final results of the study recognize the symbolic overlays of pre-Hispanic deities such as the Sun to refer to Jesus Christ and the use of the moon to represent the Virgin.
