About This Book

The author documents certain characteristics of the sociological, disciplinary and stylistic dimensions of architecture at a given time (1916-1926). The work tries to elucidate what was happening in each dimension during those years and, at the same time, continuously rethink the logic that dominated it and communicated with the others. It reconstructs, in the first place, the side of the most formalized discipline, but also the most unstable: its academic course, marked by subordination to Engineering, first, by the suppression of the orientation in Architecture, then, and finally by the creation of the School of Architecture within the Faculty of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences. Secondly, the work evaluates the almost unknown presence and coexistence of three figures that would become relevant to architecture.: Kronfuss, Guido and Salamone. The three had arrived in Cordoba for various reasons but the University found them. Third, the research considers a style that these figures would have visited, the neocolonial. This style had a fleeting deployment in the state architecture of housing and services between 1921 and 1926; This deployment is linked, above all, to the figure of Kronfuss, which connects with the debates regarding the possibility of a national architecture. Documenting all these experiences simultaneously allowed to expand the merely disciplinary focus, and to restore certain practices, certain ideas regarding the architecture and culture of the city of Córdoba.
