About This Book

By examining the neoconservative political movements of the centrist liberal ideology during Ronald Reagan's presidency and the conservative views of the George W. Bush presidency, the author attempts to answer three main questions: How can we understand neoconservatism's political ascendancy? Under what historical conditions are neoconservatives able to influence American politics? How can we explain the influence of neconservatives on American foreign policy? He maintains that neoconservatism was able to shape American politics because of the confluence of suitable historical context, ideas, institutions, and interests; that together they facilitated the influence of those very ideas on American foreign affairs. Basic principles of the realignment theory are utilized to analyze the pattern of evolution in American politics.
