About This Book
Henry Briden was born, 1825, and raised in the provience of Hanover, Germany. It is believed that he was a stow-away at age 20 on a ship to Galveston, Texas. After being a Texas Ranger for two years and wondering around south Texas he meet Lucinda Sevier and they were married in 1849 in Corsicana, Texas. Lucinda had inheriated 1,482 acres of land in Johnson County so they proceeded to her land and became the first permenant settlers in Johnson County. They were true pioneers on the frontier of Texas when there were many American Indians passing through this area.
The book covers Henry's Civil War experiences. Lucinda and Henry produced four children and Lucinda passed away in 1875. With small children Henry married Mattie Foard and they produced three children before Mattie and their young son passed away in 1880. Henry married Sarah Ann Mullies of Cleburne, Texas for his third marriage. This marriage produced no children.
The author was able to locate almost all of Henry's descendants over six generations. Ninety percent of these descendants live in Texas with the majority living within a 100 mile radius of the Dallas / Fort Worth area.
The book contains 609 photographs and easy-to-read family trees. The first three appendex have tables showing all of Henry's land filings in Hill and Johnson Counties. The fourth appendix are miscellanious old pictures that the author inherrited from his mother. The fifth appendix are pictures and a family tree of the Trout family which is the authors mothers, mothers family. There is a large Index at the end of the book.
