About This Book
US artist Anne Chu is interested primarily in historical themes in her paintings and sculptures, using them to instigate a dialogue between Western and Asian cultures. She trawls history and brings it up to date with a contemporary reception, borrowing floating "putti", made of glazed porcelain, from Roman frescoes, for example. A life-size torso made of nickel silver is based on a Roman sculpture and brings to mind the mortality of humans. Coloured drawings complement the sculptural ensemble in both form and content. The result is a thought-provoking Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art), which oscillates relentlessly between the present and the historical past. 0Exhibition: Kunstmuseen Krefeld, Museum Haus Lange, Germany (30.9.2012-7.4.2013).0.
