About This Book

The ceramics collection entitled "Pajarera" (Bird handler) by Valentina Vega Eck is presented in a photobook. The main part of the book bears the title of "Esculturas" (Sculptures). It displays full-page colo photographs of ceramic sculptures of a variety of bird men, or anthropomorphized birds that exercise a variety of earthly trades: executives, academics, tenors, wizards, navigators, stockbrokers, vigilantes, etc. The universe of the "Pajarera", is populated by masculinity and its symbolism. While women are represented by wonderful Meninas, who look up at the sky in their courtly costumes, as some divinity, just trying to breathe or about to start a song. "This book is the clay work I have done for the last 20 years. At some point in my most combative feminism, I thought I was depicting the male genre with irony and some rage in my works. And I think there's some of that".
