In 1839, the French Education Minister Abel-François Villemain had sent Menas on a mission to find ancient Greek manuscripts. In 1842, Menas found a manuscript of Babrius at a monastery at Mount Athos, the Codex Athous, of which a copy was edited and published by Boissonade in 1844. Current scholarship disagrees on the authorship of the Codex Althous and of the authenticity of the prologues and of the moral tags that appear after 61 of the 143 fables.</span><br /></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;text-align:justify;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0.0001pt;text-align:justify;line-height:normal;"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size:11.5pt;font-family:Helvetica, sans-serif;"><a href="https://catalyst.library.jhu.edu/catalog/bib_4103077" rel="ugc nofollow">Click here to view the Johns Hopkins University catalog record.</a></span></span></p>
